Troop 923 News
Advancement News
Joe Wenger has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He has reached his 18th birthday, and is now officially an Assistant Scoutmaster. Congratulations Joe, a job well done.Laser Tag
While not an official troop activity, some of the guys met at Lazer Quest in November for an evening of lazer tag. (Boy Scouts of America policy prohibits troops from participating in paintball, laser tag and similar activities because they involved pointing a weapon at another person.) The guys decided to get together with some other friends they made through Scouting, and spent the evening competing for "bragging rights", and eating pizza.
Turkey Dinner 2008
Troop 923 once again hosted their families for a Turkey Dinner cookout. This is the troop's way of thanking their families for all they do during the year, and sharing among each other the fellowship of a great meal in good company. We enjoyed two smoked turkeys with all the trimmings and a good time was had by all.
Pancake Breakfast
Troop 923 held its annual pancake breakfast with Santa on the first Sunday in December. About 300 persons attended. Pancakes, french toast, sausages, coffee, juice and desert was served. Troop slide show and and live music were part of the venue. A delightful event and oh yes, our only fund raiser. Thanks to all the scouts, leaders and other who made this a successful event.
First Aid Meet.
At the recent First aid meet Held at St Francis Hospital in Evanston IL The scouts of 923 come in at 2nd place. Congratulations to all for a great job well done. Even more impressive was that our team was mostly made up of new scouts who had to compete against other Scout Troops far more experienced.
Summer Camp 2009
Troop 923 will spent a week at Camp Blackhawk, Owasippe Scout Reservation, Twin Lake Michigan. Activities included a climbing wall, high and low rope course, rife and shot gun, archery, day hikes and a 5 mile canoe trip. Non swimmer can learned how to swim, there will be instruction in canoeing and sailing and the proper use of a knife and axe. Scouts participated in campfires, cooking meals over an open fire. pitching tents and the proper way to raise and lower the American Flag. In addition there will be instruction in leather working and basketry and a host of other activities including a star hike at night. This is what happens when you go to camp rather than stand on street corners or go to the mall. A good time will be had by all. Thanks to all the Adults and Jr. Leaders who make this possible.
