What are we doing next?

Our  regular Scout Troop meetings are every Tuesday at 7:30 pm in the lower level (basement) of the church rectory. The Troop committee meets at the same time every 3rd Tuesday of the month. All parents are welcome. Check the calendar for any changes.

A good time was had by all at Owasippe Camp Blackhawk (go) site 4. We'll do it again next year. make your plans early to attend.

Memorial for Chuck Kmiec

 Donations are being sought for a memorial to Chuck.  The goal is to raise enough money to buy another sailboat for the Sailing Base on Big Blue Lake at Owasippe. We hope to name the boat "Buddha I" in honor of Chuck's nickname as a staffman at Owasippe.  He was the original "Buddha", and the boat would reflect that.  A boat named after Chuck would show his two beloved pastimes; sailing and Scouting.

Welcome to the Troop 923 Website!

The Troop is looking for a few good boys, to paraphrase the Marines! Fall is here, and with the start of school, we look forward to welcoming new Scouts. Any boy between the ages of 11 and 17 who'd like to join us as we go rock climbing, canoeing, whitewater rafting, camping, and just plain having fun, should come to a troop meeting on Tuesday evenings, from 7:30 to 9:00 PM. Our meetings are held in the St. Margaret Mary Rectory Basement, 2324 W. Chase Avenue, in the rear, down the stairs.

Our Purpose

Originally chartered by the Boy Scouts of America in 1937, the troop has been active continuously since that time. The Boy Scouts of America was incorporated to provide a program for community organizations that offers effective character, citizenship, and personal fitness training for youth. Specifically, the BSA endeavors to develop American citizens who are physically, mentally, and emotionally fit; have a high degree of self-reliance as evidenced in such qualities as initiative, courage, and resourcefulness; have personal values based on religious concepts; have the desire and skills to help others; understand the principles of the American social, economic, and governmental systems; are knowledgeable about and take pride in their American heritage and understand our nation's role in the world; have a keen respect for the basic rights of all people; and are prepared to participate in and give leadership to American society.

How to Join the Troop

Membership is open to boys who are 11, but not yet 18 years old OR have completed the fifth grade and are at least 10 OR have earned the Cub Scout Arrow of Light Award and are at least 10 years old. Membership is open to all religious faiths. Parents, prospective Boy Scouts, and family members are welcome to visit any meeting. Initial cost to join the troop totals $35.00, which includes registration fees, a copy of the Boy Scout Handbook, uniform patches, and a subscription to Boy's Life. Full uniform is not required immediately, but is encouraged. Minimum uniform is the official uniform shirt with correct patches, which should be obtained within one month of joining. We welcome the applications of adults who wish to volunteer with the troop. Adult volunteers serve the troop in a variety of jobs—everything from Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters to Troop Committee Members, Merit Badge Counselors, and Chartered Organization Representatives. Applicants do not need previous Scouting experience, just a willingness to help, and to follow the principles of Scouting.  A parent or guardian must be present at joining to complete the registration.
